I was completely blown away by John Donne's Batter My Heart. I normally enjoy poetry more
than any other Literary form, and this poem was no exception, aside from the fact it meant more
than any other. When the poem was first introduced to me in class, I was very impressed and
deeply intrigued. With every personal reading of the work in the text, I draw something new from

read this poem. Another helpful point is that our lives can not be made new without pain, like the birth of a child can not be without labor pains. The connection between these two had never been made until my reading. Finally, the most awesome of all the paradoxes mentioned, we are not truly free unless we are God's slaves, and we can not be clean and pure unless He has taken us over completely.
