The Viet Minh struggled for power through many years of warfare with the French and later the Americans, finally achieving in their aim of 'liberation of our people and the salvation of our nation' on 30th April 1975, when the North Vietnamese Army raced into the Presidential palace of South Vietnam and united the two states under the Viet Minh.
