…noises outside and begins firing his gun. The children escape but Jem catches his trousers on a metal fence and has to leave them behind. When he later goes back to get them he finds them folded in a pile and stitched up. Atticus' best qualities are that he is very honest and believes everybody deserves a fair chance. Also Atticus feels that respecting your elders is very important and teaches this to his children.
