Early Irish society was hierarchical in character. It was governed by the Brehon law, however it was somewhat disturbed in 1169 by the Anglo-Norman invasions.

In Northern Ireland in particular, symbols are of the utmost importance, which is why I believe all symbols should be excluded from courtrooms, due to their emotive nature.
