The Second World War began with Hitler's attack on Poland in 1939 and ended with the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945. It marked an end for Europe domination of the world and encouraged decolonization and most importantly it saw the emergence of two powerful superpowers; the USA and the USSR.
