Certainly not at the population previous to American colonization, but considering the alternative of possibility of extinction, their existence today is remarkable. The Prophet certainly has to be given some credit for his remarkable cunning and insight, at times, in securing not only his longevity and survival, but that of his people, the Shawnee, as well.
