Had some of the presidents after Lincoln taken a more aggressive approach to Reconstruction and supported the Republican Radicals, it may have worked better. But, because of the very small amount of support put forth by the citizens, the industrialists, the entire southern United States, and even politicians, Reconstruction just did not have the power behind it to work.
