If the US tried to teach kids that some forms of discrimination are okay, then naturally the whole system comes crashing down. An overprotective mom creates a reasonably responsible child. A reasonably responsible mom creates a less disciplined child. (Once again, there are exceptions) It's all an effort to create a balance to counter the evil and greed of the world.
