In 1955, Rosa Parks an African American woman in Montgomery, Alabama, refused to give up her bus seat for a white passenger and move to the back of the bus. Rosa was arrested and this sparked a 382 day boycott on buses and the beginning of the civil rights movement. The next night, 50 leaders of the African American community met. Among them was Dr. Martin Luther King.
