Irgun's purpose for massacring a whole village was, and it is considered by some that they mainly wanted to scare the Arabs of Palestine by inflicting large casualties, as well as for economic reasons. The massacre had a great effect in the fleeing of Palestinian Arabs during the war, thereby aggravating the Palestinian refugee problem.
