*This essay is about the film "Much Ado About Nothing" directed by Kenneth Branagh, relating to William Shakespeares play of the same title.*
Don John is the main villain in "Much Ado About Nothing." He is the one who speaks little, but when he does, he creates an image of disease. He admits that he cannot be who he is not, not even to please others. This is an oxymoron in itself, an 'honest villain.

Branagh has brought across the character of Don John based on Shakespeare's play very well. In the play, Don John is the villain based on what he says and does, but in the film, things around him show that he is bad; the darkness, the music, the clothes and colours worn. Branagh makes the surroundings suit Don John's feelings and personality, creating a whole scene of darkness and plots. Branagh brings Shakespeare's words to life.
