On March 6, 1888, at the age of fifty-five, Louisa May Alcott died from pneumonia and other diseases. Her father had died only three days earlier. She was buried at Concord's Sleepy Hollow Cemetery; not far from the resting places of her dear friends Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.
