It leaves me feeling happy for Mary because she has managed to escape the death penalty I do not feel any sympathy for Patrick because he was going to leave her when she was six months pregnant, which was cruel. It sums him up. At times he was worried about what people might think - his reputation and jobs - then her health and security. "KEEP IT QUIET", is his motto - for his sake.
