Nathaniel Hawthorne used the theme of hypocrisy within his book masterfully. It was the dominant theme of the book and was expressed through many different medians. The theme of hypocrisy also had a very apparent affect on many of the characters. He used this theme to help us better understand this human fault.

overall theme he was really able to tie in all the points that he wanted to include in the novel very nicely. He wanted to show people that no matter what you did in the eyes of people it really doesn't matter. What really mattered was doing right in the eyes of God.
