In order to study pre 20th century coursework, we have analysed two short stories. I have chosen to write about "The Monkey's Paw" and "The Red Room" as examples of which create suspense and tension most successfully. The Red Room is similar, there is still an unsolved mystery, as to what is inside the dark red room, and whether the man's head was only playing trickes on him. The perfect ending of the stories which leave the readers asking questions.
