…The text is still valuable today because it presents a historical commentary on 19th century European society as we have seen. Secondly because it continues to cause responders to affirm or challenge the values of the individuals and society presented. More than anything else however, it made me think about the institutions and conventions that govern me, and prompted the realisation that any individual will always be relatively constrained by the society they exist in.
