The Okefenokee Swamp is located in Georgia and has played a major part in state's history. Many people have lived in the swamp, from the Indians to the White settlers. People have tried to drain it and cut down the trees but it still exists today. We need to take care of this precious gift to make sure it lasts for many others to enjoy.

The swamp has four features, the prairies, the houses and hammocks, the lakes, and the islands. The Prairies are the open parts, and the houses and hammocks are the clusters of trees. There are about seventy islands and forty lakes. As you can see the swamp is not only good for protecting the coastline and filtering our water but the swamp has played a part in our history. And hopefully we continue to preserve it.
