but it indeed is. In 1984 the government did everything they did to maintain authority, just as our government does today. Imposing the fear of war, use of surveillance, and the media are three prime examples when it comes to similarities from the book and today. Orwell wrote 1984 fifty two years ago and the world he describes has not become our world in 2002...but who is to say that in another fifty-two years it won't have?
