Archer is a tragic character. In conclusion, Newland Archer and Ethan Frome are two characters though so different, yet very much alike. Each man had a vision. They envisioned themselves with the women they wanted. For Ethan, it was Mattie. For Newland, it was Countess Olenska. But due to certain circumstances, the trickery by their wives, and being tragic characters these two men were unable to fulfill what they wanted out of life- true love.
