…The Elizabethans had pretty good special effects for their time. Death scenes were realistically gory. For example, a pig bladder would be filled with blood under white costumes. Music and props were very important because no scenery was used. Everything from the setting, to what the characters looked like, and the time of day, had to be conveyed to the audience through the words which is why those scripts today seem so wordy and descriptive.
