there was foreign interference which stained it's purity. This created religious, social, political and economic divides and extremist groups to be formed on either side to fight for their cause. There was also the distrust where neither religion would accept or have any trust and makes it difficult to resolve their differences. These aspects have joined together to make todays present issues very difficult to resolve as both parties feel very strongly about the past.
