Asia, China's economic rise and its accession to the WTO is a resounding wake-up call. China's full and transparent participation in the multilateral trading system should have many positive spin-offs. Sustainable growth in China should boost world trade volume. Sharper competition may spur much-needed reforms in the rest of Asia. If their companies rise to the challenge, Asian countries will be among the biggest beneficiaries of this increased volume, brought by China's accession to WTO.
