No matter what measures were taken people still became infected until the 1600s when the disease finally seemed to disappear. Although there were a few cases reported as late as the nineteenth century and quite possibly even today modern medicine has made this world a much healthier place to live. All I can say after writing this paper is thank God for modern medicine!
