Ben Franklin was born on January 17, 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was an inventor, scientist, statesman, as well as a diplomat. He was also an author and publisher of the Poor Richard: An Almanack. The almanac was famous for its practical advice expressed in short sayings, called "maxims".
