The vilification of Chillingworth is strange, however, since it was Hester and Dimmesdale who originally wronged Chillingworth. Yet we see the way Chillingworth tortured poor Dimmesdale, and I cannot help but feel a distrust and strong dislike of Chillingworth's character.
