one, the media wasn't so intent on showing somebody's head blown off ever other minute, secondly, if children's home environments were a little bit better and thirdly, if younger children were taught earlier on about the harmful effects of guns. The world isn't a perfect place but the US defiantly isn't helping the current gun situation. Hopefully, this will soon change and maybe someday we can have as many deaths by firearms as Japan does.
