The Nazis began taking people by the thousands and keeping them in hastily constructed pens. Anything possible to use, such as old army barracks and abandoned factories were used as prisons. The prisoners inside were treated terribly. They were either tortured with military drills, beatings or harsh discipline and many were even tortured to death.
