Wyoming region was only a link in the long overland trails to Oregon, California, and Salt Lake Valley. The chief means of transportation were two-wheeled carts, pack animals, and covered wagons. As settlements grew up in the state itself, stagecoaches were used to carry both passengers and freight. Many of the old stage routes later became modern highways.
