Sir Walter Raleigh was born in 1554 in Hayes Barton, Devonshire. In 1569, he fought with the Huguenots (French Protestants) in the wars of religion. He was executed in 1618 under the same sentence as before which had never been revoked. Raleigh asked to see the ax before his execution.
