Biography of Kate Chopin
On February 8, 1950, Kate O'Flaherty was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Her father was an Irishman named Thomas O'Flaherty and her mother was an American-French woman named Eliza Faris O'Flaherty. She had four other brothers and sisters. Her sisters died as infants and her brothers before they turned 25.

Kate, now a well known woman, published over 100 stories and sketches. When the Awakening was published, there was a lot of chaos because of the message that was in it. Kate was not accepted in the St. Louis Fine Art Club. Because of this, Kate Chopin only wrote a few stories, and only a few of those were actually published. Kate's very last story was Polly. On August 22, 1904, Kate Chopin died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
